The end...I promise

After spending a week doing nothing but hopping between the pool and the ocean, we started our trek home. By the way, the week in the sun....was awesome. We got some good tans. I got some books read. Trent was able to golf a bit. But most of all, we had a great time as a family.

Anyway, we headed north to Wilmington, NC where we stopped to see the USS North Carolina - a retired battleship. The kids thought this was really cool - seemed to enjoy the battleship more than the air craft carrier. Then we headed north to Williamsburg, VA. Our plan was to see the historic things in Williamsburg, but after talking with a man in Myrtle Beach that was from VA, we changed our minds. He had kids about our age, and said that they wouldn't really appreciate it; especially considering how expensive it was. So on the fly we decided (well, really the kids decided) to travel the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel system instead. 17 miles of bridges and tunnels. Amazing. If you ever go to that part of VA, it's worth the money to drive across it!

Our trip home was a lot more driving than seeing. A few of the other things we were able to enjoy were the Appalachian Mountains, a gigantic maze in the middle of nowhere (another kid decision), the Louisville Slugger Museum and a visit with some great friends. By the end of the vacation we were ready to be home, so we drove a little extra each day and ended up getting home a day and a half early. Ahhh......my own bed!! 17 days and over 3500 miles later we were back at home. Little did we know that the van we had spent a fair amount of money getting ready for vacation would now have a transmission problems. Yep, the transmission ended up going for the second time in this van, after we got home. We ended up getting rid of it at the beginning of October and replacing it with a truck. At least we made it home with no major problems.
